Why You Should Consider Lake Tahoe for Your Next Golf Destination
Jan 27, 2023Lake Tahoe is a golfer's paradise, surrounded by stunning mountain views and beautiful natural scenery. If you're looking for an incredible golfing experience, there are plenty of top-notch courses to choose from. Here are some of the best golf courses to play around Lake Tahoe:
- Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course: Located on the south shore of the lake, this stunning course has hosted multiple major golf tournaments and offers breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe. Rated as one of Golf Digest’s top public courses, Edgewood has welcomed many celebrities hosting the American Century Championship annually. The course is in magnificent shape with the final three holes bordering right along the crystal blue lake.
- Old Greenwood Golf Course: Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Old Greenwood offers a challenging yet fair course and is known for its impeccable greens and well-manicured fairways. Host of the Barracuda Championship, this professional-caliber course navigates rolling hills in the magnificent mountain woods.
- The Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing: This course, along with Old Greenwood, is part of the Tahoe Mountain Club. Pines line the fairways as the course weaves through a natural mountain surrounding with Mt. Rose as its backdrop. Fast greens and tournament-like conditions await golfers every day. Both courses at the Tahoe Mountain Club are must-plays.
- Coyote Moon Golf Course: This course is surrounded by stunning scenery, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains and ancient pine forests. It is a beautiful and challenging course with rolling hills, narrow fairways, and elevated greens. The undulations of this course make it one of the most underrated in the area, especially for the price.
- Incline Village Championship Course: Located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, this course features spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The course is well known for its well-manicured fairways and fast greens. Incline Village also offers a par-58 mountain course.
- Schaffer's Mill Golf and Lake Club: This course is located in the heart of the Martis Valley and is known for its beautiful mountain views, challenging holes, and well-manicured fairways. Although a now private course, reciprocal play for members of other private clubs can be arranged working through your home golf professional.
Aside from golf, Lake Tahoe offers numerous other summer activities. Topping the list is anything to do with the Lake. Whether it’s renting a boat, fishing, swimming, or snorkeling, this crystal-clear lake is stunning. Fair warning, the Lake is cold. Only two other lakes in North America are deeper. If you’ve had your fix of outdoor activities, there are also numerous casinos that surround the lake, especially on the south side.
Majority of the golf courses are located on the north side of the lake (near Truckee, CA). Depending on how much you want to do, be conscious of your accommodations, as it is a 72-mile drive around the lake that can take 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
No matter which course you choose or where you stay, you're sure to have an incredible golfing experience at Lake Tahoe. With its stunning natural beauty and top-notch courses, Lake Tahoe is a must-visit destination for golfers of all skill levels.
