Whiskey Creek Golf Club
Nov 05, 2024TRULY SPECIAL… Nestled in the rolling hills of Frederick County Maryland, lies Whiskey Creek Golf Club. An 18-hole golf course that has been dubbed one of the most beautiful courses in the state. Designed by J. Michael Poellot, a protégé of legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, the course has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging and picturesque courses in the Mid-Atlantic region. Poellot teamed up with design consultant Ernie Els to make this public course feel like a private course. It’s extremely rare to be able to play an Ernie Els designed course, so this is a must!
As you make your way through the course, you'll be struck by the stunning natural beauty that surrounds you. The course winds its way through forests of oak and maple trees, across brooks, streams, and past tranquil ponds and waterfalls. Whiskey Creek is known for its “30 mile long views” and some of the most “spectacular tee shots” in all of golf.
Poellot even states, “It's only 35 miles from Washington, DC, but it feels like a different world.”
Highlight Hole
Hole #18
Hole #18: This par-5 hole measures 516 yards and will leave you feeling inspired to hit the links again. They say this is one of the most “dramatic” and “unique” finishing holes in the entire Mid-Atlantic. It has the ruins of a 19th century stone house that splits the fairway. A golfer can choose the left side to be more aggressive or choose the right side and be more conservative for a layup shot. The left gives the longer hitters a shot for the green in two. However if you chose the safer right side, your approach shot has to go directly over a pond. Be careful not to get wet! This is such a strategic hole, but what it really focuses on is memorability. You’ll be sure to tell your friends exactly how you played this hole, and what your outcome was, good or bad. This one will stay in the memory bank forever.

Quote of The Week
"One reason golf is such an exasperating game is that a thing we learned is so easily forgotten, and we find ourselves struggling year after year with faults we had discovered and corrected time and again.”
– Bobby Jones
