Fossil Trace is a must play Golf Course in Colorado

Let’s be real. This place is bad ass. You hear it all the time from people that Colorado is one of the nicest places to visit, especially in the summer months. Fossil Trace is a must play next time you're out near Colorado. Located about 20 minutes west of downtown Denver, you enter into prehistoric times and play golf where the dinosaurs roamed 64 million years ago. As mentioned on their site fossiltrace.com,  holes 11-15 are carved right where these creatures walked. Find triceratops footprints and other fossils embedded into the rock walls throughout the course. This is truly an otherworldly experience and makes for some great pictures that will last a lifetime.

Not only is the fossil discovery and history of this golf course surreal, but you get to play a championship level course designed by Jim Engh. This course is considered one of the best public golf courses in all of Colorado.

Highlight Hole

Hole #1

Hole #1 has a brick chimney stack in the middle of the fairway that has been standing since the 1940’s. Such a unique way to incorporate the old mining area in this modern historic course layout.

This hole has consistently been rated the #1 starting hole in Colorado multiple times since 2003.

This opening hole  is nasty. It’s a 575 yard Par 5 rated at a 3HCP. The green is protected by a muscle bunker to the left hand side and a plethora of cottonwood trees to the right. I’m sure most of us will be visiting the beach that day or becoming a lumberjack.

If you don't land your drive in the “launch pad” area, kiss your chances goodbye trying to reach this green in two.
