The Cradle of American Golf
Apr 10, 2023If you're a golf enthusiast, and haven’t been to Pinehurst, that needs to change. The charming little village in North Carolina has become a pilgrimage site for golf lovers from all over the world. Home to some of the finest golf courses, Pinehurst offers a complete golfing experience.
What Makes Pinehurst So Special?
For one, Pinehurst's golf courses are steeped in history and have hosted some of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women's Open, PGA Championship, and Ryder Cup. Course No. 2, designed by Donald Ross, is considered the crown jewel of Pinehurst's golf courses. It has been ranked among the top golf courses in the world and has undergone several renovations to restore it to its original glory. The course's challenging greens, strategic bunkers, and beautiful pine trees make it a golfer's ultimate test. Course No. 4, designed by Tom Fazio, is another must-play course at Pinehurst. It underwent a major restoration in 2018 and has since become a favorite among golf enthusiasts.
We could go on to discuss every course, but with nine courses (and No. 10 on the way), we could be here all day! Each courses at Pinehurst is unique and offers golfers of all skill levels challenges. The only issue with Pinehurst is it’s hard to play every course if you’re on a time constraint. If you’re only there for 3 rounds, #2, #4, and #8 have become the most popular.
We also can’t forget about the par-3 course, The Cradle. If you’re looking for a fun and relaxed round of golf, the Cradle is it. The course is designed by golf architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and has become one of Pinehurst's most popular attractions. As Golf Channel calls it, the Cradle is “the most fun 10 acres in all of golf”.
For accommodation, The Carolina Hotel is the most popular choice. The resort offers elegant rooms, suites, and villas, all of which are beautifully decorated and equipped with modern amenities. The resort also has several restaurants, bars, and lounges where you can meet other golfers for a cold beer. The Carolina, located inside the hotel, is an upscale restaurant that serves Southern-inspired cuisine. The Ryder Cup Lounge is a casual sports bar that offers an extensive selection of craft beers and pub-style food. If you prefer more privacy, you can opt for a vacation rental or a bed and breakfast in the surrounding area. However, Pinehurst offers packages that are more rewarding if you stay on site.
Pinehurst truly is the Home of American Golf. Rooted in deep history, every single golfer should at some point visit these immaculate golf grounds. So what are you waiting for?
