Why You Should Consider Reynolds Lake Oconee for Your Next Golf Destination

An idyllic golf destination located in Greensboro, Georgia, Reynolds Lake Oconee boasts six championship golf courses designed by legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Rees Jones, and Bob Cupp. Each course offers its own unique challenges and breathtaking views of Lake Oconee. Reynolds Lake Oconee is located approximately 85 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, making it easily accessible for golfers from across the country.

Now, let’s get into the courses you need to play:

  • Great Waters: A highly acclaimed Jack Nicklaus signature course, this course provides an incredible balance of woods and lake. The course is consistently ranked one of the tops in the state of Georgia. The back nine is a completely different experience as the final eight holes are right on the lake. If you go to Reynolds, you must play Great Waters.
  • The Landing: This was the original course built on property that set the stage for a premier golf destination. One of two Bob Cupp designs, the holes wind through the naturally wooded areas and rolling hills. A few holes play right along the Lake.
  • The National: Tom Fazio designed this course to showcase the natural beauty of the area, with its rolling hills, stunning views, and challenging holes. The Nationals trademark is its dramatic elevation changes. There are three nines at the National: The Ridge, Bluff, and Cove. After 27-holes, be sure to grab a cold drink and sandwich at the National Tavern.
  • The Oconee: Designed by Rees Jones, this course scenically routes along the Lake shoreline. With inspiring lakeviews, the course design offers a true risk reward layout. The Oconee also consistently ranks as a top course in the state of Georgia.
  • The Preserve: This course is a shorter and playable course than the rest. If you’re going to play all of the Reynolds courses, try starting out here. It’s a fun track and for players of all levels. The Preserve also hosts a “quick six”, a six-hole course within a course where each hole is less than 130 yards and can be played in an hour.
  • The Creek Club: This is a private track with incredibly designed holes that utilize the underlaying terrain. Hole number 18 has three separate greens, giving the hole a unique challenge each time it is played. If you’re lucky enough, a member may sponsor you to play here. It’s worth the ask.

If you can only play three, many argue Great Waters, The Oconee, and The National would top the list (aside from the Private Creek Club). But no matter which courses you play, they’re all spectacular.

In addition to golf, Reynolds Lake Oconee offers a variety of other activities, including boating, fishing, tennis, and dining. Reynolds has numerous cottages and condos on site, offering a wide variety of accommodations. There is also a Ritz Carlton (although technically separate entity from Reynolds) for those interested in an elevated accommodation. Reynolds offers very reasonable golf packages which you can find out more information about through concierge.
